repartir

repartir

See also: répartir

Catalan

Verb

repartir (first-person singular present reparteixo, past participle repartit)

  1. To share out
  2. to hand out, give out

Conjugation

French

Etymology

re- + partir.

Verb

repartir

  1. (intransitive) To leave again, to go back
  2. (intransitive) To restart, to set off again
  3. (transitive, archaic or literary) To retort.

Conjugation

This is one of a fairly large group of irregular -ir verbs that are all conjugated the same way. Other members of this group include sortir and dormir. The most significant difference between these verbs' conjugation and that of the regular -ir verbs is that these verbs' conjugation does not use the infix -iss-. Further, this conjugation has the forms (je, tu) repars and (il) repart in the present indicative and imperative, whereas a regular -ir verb would have *repartis and *repartit (as in the past historic).

Usage notes

In its intransitive meaning, "repartir" uses "être" as its auxiliary, but "avoir" in its transitive meanings, which is only found in dialogue.
