From a Vulgar Latin root *supercenna, from *supergenna, formed from a confusion of Latinsupercilia and gena (whence came Aromanian dzeanã), or from supercilia with influence from dzeanã within (Proto-) Romanian, analogous to the original Latin deriving from super ("above") + cilia ("eyelash"). Compare Spanish sobreceño. The Aromanian word developed a nasal infix, similarly to Portuguese sobrancelha, Romansh survantscheglia; compare also the Daco-Romanian equivalent sprânceană.
