toi, toi, toi

1. (opera) A superstitious expression of encouragement prior to a performance, equivalent to break a leg.

Usage notes

This expression may not be readily understood outside the context of the opera, theatre or music. Note that it is not pronounced in the same way as the French 'toi'.
