կապեմ • ‎(kapem)  (aorist indicative կապեցի)

1. (transitive) to bind, to tie, to fasten; to bind or tie up; to bind fast, to pinion; to cord, to bind with cords; to bind, to connect or link with

   կապել եւ արձակել‎ ― kapel ew arjakel ― to bind and loose

   կապել խրձունս‎ ― kapel xrjuns ― to bind up in bundles, in fagots

   ըստ նզովիւք կապել‎ ― əst nzoviwkʿ kapel ― to excommunicate

   կապել պատուհաս, դսրովանս ի վերայ‎ ― kapel patuhas, dsrovans i veray ― to chide, to correct, to punish, to chastise; to blame, to censure

   կապել զլեզու‎ ― kapel zlezu ― to tongue-tie

   անուն կապել անձին‎ ― anun kapel anjin ― to gain celebrity, to win fame, to acquire a great name

2. (transitive) to chain, to put in irons, to imprison
3. (transitive, figuratively) to bind by friendship, by contract
4. (transitive, grammar) to spell
5. (in the mediopassive, intransitive) to be fastened, tied or bound

   կապեալ‎ ― kapeal ― bound; imprisoned, enchained

   կապեալ ձեռօք եւ կապեալ ոտիւք‎ ― kapeal jeṙōkʿ ew kapeal otiwkʿ ― bound hand and foot

   իրք կապեալք‎ ― irkʿ kapealkʿ ― rebus

6. (in the mediopassive, intransitive) to thicken
7. (in the mediopassive, intransitive, figuratively) to become attached to, to conceive affection for

   կապիլ ոգւոյ ընդ ոգւոյ, կապիլ ընդ ումեք սիրով‎ ― kapil ogwoy ənd ogwoy, kapil ənd umekʿ sirov ― to knit soul to soul, to be linked in the closest bonds of affection
