Etymology

From earlier *վէշապ (*vēšap), from Parthian *vēšāp. The Avestan form is [script needed] (višāpa) from earlier *viš.sāpa (venom-sap), composed of [script needed] (viša-, venom) (compare Sanskrit विष (víṣa, poison)) and [script needed] (sāpa, sap, savour; sap, juice) (compare Latin sapor). Georgian ვეშაპი (vešaṗi) is also from Iranian.
