כֹּה וָכֹה • ‎(kó vakhó)

1. here and there, hither and thither, this way and that, around
   • Exodus 2:12, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     וַיִּפֶן כֹּה וָכֹה וַיַּרְא כִּי אֵין אִישׁ וַיַּךְ אֶת־הַמִּצְרִי וַיִּטְמְנֵהוּ בַּחוֹל׃‎

     vayífen kó vakhó vayár kí 'éin 'ísh vayákh 'et-hamitsrí vayitm'néhu bakhól.
     wayyíp̄en kō wāḵō wayyar kī ʾēn ʾīš wayyaḵ ʾeṯ-hammiṣrī wayyiṭmənḗhū baḥōl.

     And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

     Soon it became fixed as a daily routine. Sophie would go out with the stick and a pair of scissors, stumble around this way and that, talk to the stick, use it to search the muddy earth or to catch choice roses that have grown up high.
