Etymology

From Proto-Tai *C̥.daɰᴬ ‎(“inside”). Cognate with Lao ໃນ ‎(nai), Lü ᦓᦺ ‎(nay). The initial of the Thai reflex is irregular, due to influence by นอก ‎(nɔ̂ɔk, “outside”).
