1. to boil (to heat something up to ebullition temperature)

   vārīt pienu, sveķus‎ ― to boil milk, resin

   vārīt udeni piecas minūtes‎ ― to boil water for five minutes

2. to boil, to cook (to prepare food in boiling water or in some other boiling liquid)

   vārīt olas‎ ― to boil eggs

   vārīt gaļu, kartupeļus‎ ― to cook meat, potatoes

   vārīt tēju‎ ― to make (lit. boil, cook) tea

   vārīt pusdienas, vakariņas‎ ― to cook lunch, dinner
