Etymology

The origin is uncertain. Perhaps composed of the privative ան- ‎(an-) +‎ -հեթեթ ‎(-hetʿetʿ), related to հայթեմ ‎(haytʿem, “to attach, to adjust, to put together”); so basically meaning ‘un-shaped, un-formed, un-adjusted’.
