From suppletion of Latin vadere (forms beginning with 'v') and either Vulgar Latin *and(i)tāre, from *ambitāre, frequentative of Latin ambīre[1] or aditāre, frequentative of adīre[2], or alternatively possibly from *amnāre, from dissimilation of earlier *amlāre, a proto-Romance or Vulgar Latin variant of ambulāre, or from Vulgar Latin adnāre (in view of Occitan anar, never *andar). Compare Spanish andar, Sicilian annari, Venetian ndar; cf. also French aller, Catalan anar, Friulian
