1. (intransitive) to stop, to come to a halt/stand/stop/standstill
2. (intransitive) to cease, to pause
3. (intransitive) to pull up, to draw up

   Файтонът спря в края на пътя. - The carriage drew up at the end of the lane.

4. (intransitive) to run down

   Часовникът е спрял. - The clock has run down.

5. (intransitive) to call (at a harbour)

   Онази година почти сто кораба спряха на пристанището. - That year almost one hundred ships called at the harbour.

   Водата спря. - The water has been cut off.

8. (transitive) to cause something or somebody to stop, to put an end to, to bring to a stop/stand/standstill

   Не можеш да го спреш. - There’s no stopping him.
