Armenian
Letter
ո
ո lowercase (uppercase Ո)
- The 24th letter of Armenian alphabet. Transliterated as o. Represents а open-mid back rounded vowel: [ɔ] (but [vɔ] word-initially).
- The numeral 600 in Armenian numbering.
Usage notes
According to Jasmine Dum-Tragut, in the initial position ո (o) is usually pronounced with a glide, namely the labiodental approximant, as [ʋɔ], e.g. որդի (ordi) [ʋɔɾˈtʰi]. Vahagn Petrosyan, a Wiktionarian, disagrees: in Standard Eastern Armenian word-initially ո (o) is pronounced as [vɔ], with a voiced labiodental fricative.
