Letter
եւ
- The 37th letter of Armenian alphabet according to the spelling reform of the Armenian language of 1922-1924. Represents [ɛv] (but [jɛv] word-initially). Transliterated as ew.
Usage notes
- This ligature was declared an independent letter as a result of the spelling reform of the Armenian language during the Soviet era (1922–1924). The reform was not accepted by the Armenian diaspora outside the USSR which continues to treat և/եւ as a simple ligature of ե (e) + ւ (w) and not as an independent letter, in line with Traditional Armenian orthography.
- When used in sentence case, the capital form of the letter is Եվ. However, in all caps text it is ԵՎ.
