From Middle Iranian (compare Manichaean Parthian ṯcr (*tažar, “palace, dwelling”)), from Old Persian [script needed] (tačara-, “palace”). Akin to Old Armenian տաճար (tačar), Old Georgian ტაძარი (ṭaʒari), ტაზარი (ṭazari) and Arabic طَزَر (ṭazar), Iranian borrowings.
