Etymology
Originally meant "no" in early Vietnamese; this usage was replaced by không, but chẳng is still used for effect. Cognate with Muong chẳng, Nguôn chẳng. Compare Thai ช่าง (châang), Lao ຊ່າງ (sāng, “to not care”).
