ㄴ다
ㄴ다
Korean
Alternative forms
- 는다 (neunda)
Suffix
ㄴ다 • (nda)
- a present tense plain style declarative suffix
- a plain style monologic interrogative suffix; usually used with interrogative words
Usage notes
The suffix ㄴ다 (nda) is directly attached to the stem of a verb ending in a vowel or with the consonant ㄹ (l), which is dropped.
- E.g. 가다 (gada, “to go”) → 아빠가 일하러 간다. (Appaga ilhareo ganda., “Dad goes to work.”)
- 갈다 (galda, “to replace”) → 아빠가 형광등을 간다. (Appaga hyeonggwangdeung-eul ganda., “Dad changes the fluorescent lamp.”)
If the stem ends in a consonant other than ㄹ (l), 는다 (neunda) is used instead. This is directly attached to the stem, as well.
- E.g. 잡다 (japda, “to catch”) → 포수가 공을 잡는다. (Posuga gong-eul jamneunda., “The catcher catches the ball.”)
